Product Description
The traditional spiritual has been extended with an original B section which can be used as a descant or a partner song making it a perfect piece for a musical experience or performance. The piece can be used to sing the entire form or enhance it by playing soprano recorders. Use the traditional A section to work on playing BAG on the recorder. The B section (with an original melody and lyrics) was written so my students would have additional opportunities to read and play BCD (high C and D) on the recorder and be immediately successful. It is a perfect addition to your Orff and Kodaly curriculum.

The set of Lesson Plans and PowerPoint interactive slides include:

• 9 lessons each 7-14 minutes (6 pdf pages) plus an Orff Orchestration. The lesson plans include detailed instructions for teaching the song, recorder, partner song/descant, form and Orff Orchestration. Extensions and adaptions are also addressed.

• 31 slides created with PowerPoint 2013 - tested on 2010 (with 22 slides being teacher and/or student interactive) may be used to reinforce recorder playing, melodic reading and aurally identifying melodic patterns. You will have everything you need to teach all the lessons. Please note that you are not charged for slides that are duplicated to help with the teaching process. The PowerPoint works very well with Smartboards - just touch the board to activate the sound effects and the animations.

It is a perfect piece to address curricular concepts while enjoying making music. It is also a great spiraling activity. Teach the song “Good News” on the recorder with your first year recorder students and sing the B section for a performance piece. Teach the B section on the recorder, the second year. The activities work well even if you do not use recorders, sing the entire piece and use the PowerPoint slides for melodic work.

The product was created to be compatible for Mac users. However, download the preview prior to purchasing to ensure that the animations and sound effects work for your platform.
