Do your students fail to study for tests? Do they try to study but just don't seem to know how? This activity is perfect for you then! It is also great in a study hall or resource classroom that needs to teach test taking skills. It can also be a good substitute lesson.
The mini-lesson requires students to think critically about what good study habits are and what might be a bad study habit. This download includes 24 cards that describe a study scenario I have seen students do. Some of these may be obvious; some may require more analysis of what good studying really is and when it occurs.
Students sort the cards into one of two categories: good study habits or bad study habits. The labels are provided in the download. Simply print, cut, and begin! You may choose to laminate all parts to maintain durability for reuse.
After students sort the cards, you can have a class discussion about why each scenario is or is not a good study habit and what makes it so. I have seen students come to what they found to be surprising realizations about their own study habits through these discussions.
