This story companion for the book "Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site" is designed to teach students to do simple oral narratives or story retells. It utilizes early literacy skills of vocabulary, print motivation, print awareness, narrative skills, and phonological awareness.
Targeted skills embedded in the activities includes an activity to stimulate prior knowledge, semantics, action verbs, definitions, rhyming sets, sequencing, patterned responses, a comprehension task with visual stimuli to facilitate responding, and enlarged vehicles to use as templates for art projects for direction following.
The unit is divided into four sessions, but this can be taught at a pace that works for the students. I do suggest that the activities be done in order, since the skills build upon one another.
--Laminate and cut cards that are used by students.
