How to Use the Activities in This Product:

This speech and language book companion for Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site contains activities and printables targeting early literacy skills, basic concept development, phonemic awareness, and vocabulary skills. Activities are ideal for students in PK through 1st Grade. Here are a few suggested activities using this product:

Target vocabulary by laminating and using the vehicle on word walls or in pocket charts.

The full sheet open-ended construction site is versatile and can be used with the smaller vehicle cutouts, or print the B/W version and let the student color, cut, glue a create their own construction site.

Print, laminate and cut out the antonym picture cards. Put cards on a ring if desired. Target antonyms in receptive and expressive language activities, or add the cards to a “construction site” sensory bin to target this skill.

Print predictable repeated text sentence strips. Use individually, match to the vehicle vocabulary strips, or place in a pocket chart. Students can read target sentences using one-to-one correspondence touching each word dot.

Print, laminate and cut out the rhyming word pairs. Students can identify and repeat the rhyme, produce additional rhyming words, or blend onset-rime with target words (d-ay/pl-ay).

Basic Concepts are essential for success in school. Early concept development begins as young as six to nine months with “more juice” and “all gone.” For school age children, basic concept knowledge is needed for following directions and participation in every aspect of the classroom.

Early literacy skills, such as print awareness, one-to-one correspondence and rhyming are essential for reading acquisition and academic success.
