This sixteen page Word document is a summary of the plot of Goodnight Mister Tom.
Students demonstrate their understanding of the plot by completing the cloze. There is a word bank with each section (chapter) to assist students.
I use this method a lot with weaker or EAL students. I find it a great support for students with learning (or language) difficulties, who need scaffolding to help them focus on core plot elements.
Students find this easier than writing their own chapter summaries. At the same time, you're not handing them a pile of notes. They're helping creating their own revision document. It's an active learning resource, not just a filler.
