Use this fun, interactive and engaging game whole group, small group, at literacy stations or for individual students. This fun gumball themed product will have kids excited to strengthen their vocabulary skills, letter/sound relationships, and long vowel/silent e word bank. It is also a fabulous way to add more technology to your daily learning activities. Tried and tested in my room, this is a definite class favorite!
This can be used throughout the year at various times as students are gaining more independence and understanding and is also great to use as a review and as an assessment to see where students are at in their development of long vowels sounds.
HOW DO I USE THIS PRODUCT?
When you purchase this you will receive a PDF file with instructions and 2 links (one to the Google Guess the Gumball Game and one link for the Teacher Answer Key) Push the activity out to your students via Google Classroom or a Google Drive Shared Folder.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET STARTED?
1. The download links for the products (included in the PDF)
2. A google account (free to download)
3. You will be prompted to "Make a Copy" -follow instructions on the screen and rename the file if you would like and/or make additional copies as backups.
4. Begin playing the game Whole Group with your class and if you have Google Classroom in your room, then push the activity to each student folder and allow them time to complete the activity.
HOW DOES THE GAME WORK?
Students look at the first picture and determine the beginning sound. They then look for the matching letter/sound and drag that letter into place under the picture. They do the same for the remaining 3 letters, forming a 4 letter word with a long vowel and silent e. Students then sound out the new word they created.
Do the same for remaining words.
There are 18 words in total - 5 each for the vowels A,I,O,U and 3 words for the vowel E.

*Can be used Whole Group or pushed to individual student google accounts
*Great for introducing the concept/skill, practicing it, testing it, reviewing it
*Students have a copy of their own work and you can use this for assessment/proof of learning
*Use throughout the year
*Fun, colourful, engaging, and did I mention FUN??!!??
*PLEASE NOTE* My store is currently primarily Smartboards and this is the first of many Google activities, so be sure to check back for more activities in the coming weeks!
If you wish to purchase this item as a Smartboard activity, I have it in my store as well. It is very similar except that students use the smartboard markers to write the letters rather than dragging and dropping the letters as they do here.
*SPECIAL NOTE* - For people new to Google Slides, it is different than Smartboard in the sense that Google saves your changes as you are working, so at the end of the game, when you want to play again you will need to manually slide the letters back down into place. This is very simple and quick:)
