Is your district increasing the use of technology in the classroom? Are you in the middle of a 1:1 tech roll out? Trying to come up with more idea to make your classroom go DIGITAL? Wanting to come up with a fun technological twist to traditional Thanksgiving lesson plans?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, you are in the right place! Due to an increased demand for Google Drive lesson plans, I have created Google Drive compatible lessons for the upcoming holiday season!
Google Drive is an amazing resource that many educators are now using as an interface to support 1:1 digital instruction in the classroom. I pair it up with Google Classroom (a free website) that allows me to digitally send each student in my class a copy of the worksheets that they later submit to me for grading. It is an amazing paper-free process and the kids LOVE working on these worksheets on the computer.
This download gives students a chance to make their own Thanksgiving Day menu. Students are provided with a digital worksheet where they research delicious Thanksgiving foods they would like to make for their guests. From turkey entrees, side dishes, and desserts, students will use the internet to find recipes they like.
Additionally, to practice internet and technology skills in a fun manner, I have included a step by step guide to help students paste some pictures to replicate a real Thanksgiving Day table. Students will practice their internet searching skills, copying and pasting skills, and learning to look for transparent images as well!
Although this lesson was designed with special education students in mind, ANY teacher would benefit from the scaffolded support to technology integration in their classroom.
This lesson is always a HUGE hit in my room. After all students are done, we present our menus to the class and share our final table as well. Great way to include technology into lessons this Thanksgiving Day season :)
- 1 turkey recipe (with link provided to search for recipes online)
- 4 side dish recipes (with link provided directly to search for Thanksgiving side dishes)
- 2 dessert recipes (with link provided directly to search for Thanksgiving desserts)

- Step by step directions on how to search for transparent images on Google. Screenshots are provided for each step. Students are also taught how to copy and paste the images onto the table
