I created this mini-project while teaching The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Since the book is about Santiago's journey, I wanted students to share their life journey: places lived, places visited, places they hope to visit. The mini-project asks students to create their own Google Map (which I found most students can figure out in about two minutes). Within the document there are guidelines and basic directions on how to get a map started including screenshots. However, I have found it best to let students explore Google Maps on their own and play with it for the first five-ten minutes after going over the mini-project guidelines. I usually introduce this project in class and give students the remaining class period to work on it. This can be done inside or outside of class. I found it takes students one-two class periods to complete their maps. Have fun!
