This is a half-sheet handout on a valuable research tool for beginners, Google Scholar. There are four major elements on the handout: information introducing Google Scholar, a QR code to scholar.google.com, some special characters to use in Google to search smarter, and some real talk about how to use a site like Wikipedia that may have some good general information but isn't reputable enough to cite in a school paper.
Border decoration is Ancient Greece-themed. Contact me if you'd like to have this handout with a different theme.
This was used for a mini-lesson kick-off for the second day of computer research. It takes about 15-20 minutes to talk about Google Scholar, give examples for how to use all or most of the special characters, and show how to use a Wikipedia page to jump-start scholarly research. My students then had the rest of the block to work on their research projects.
