Product Description
In this engaging activity, students populate a spreadsheet with fictional data from a preseason bowling tournament. Students use the AVERAGE function to calculate the bowlers average score for 5 strings. Conditional formatting is used as students are introduced to the IF function which assigns each bowler to Division 1 or Division 2 for the upcoming season based on their scores.

The MAX function is used to determine top scores for each of the 5 strings the bowlers participated in. Additionally, students used a bar chart to reflect the data visually. There is a lot of good stuff in this packed activity!!

A valuable shortcut called "Filling Down" is demonstrated so that students can click and drag to quickly reuse the functions and avoid retyping. Students also review basic formatting in Google Sheets including changing fonts, colors, etc...Students learn to apply filters so that they can easily sort bowlers who are in Division 1 and those who are in Division 2.

The instructions come in the form of an interactive .pdf file, which allows students to navigate throughout the document by clicking buttons, click on a linked up Table of Contents, and toggle between full screen mode and normal viewing mode. Students enjoy this measure of control over how they get around the instructions, and they are quickly and easily able to backtrack and review information using the Table of Contents.

Google Sheets is basically like an online version of Excel. It is a great alternative to Excel in that it allows for student collaboration and for students to access their work wherever they have an internet connection!
