This is a vocabulary list I made for Gooney Bird Greene by Lois Lowry when I was teaching EFL students abroad. The list was used to both increase vocabulary as well as to allow students to read the book faster by providing quick descriptions of the vocabulary words. The students were Korean, so the descriptions of the words were intended for non-native English speaking students with a massive passive vocabulary. Often, I used descriptions in a way I knew Korean students would be able to quickly understand, so while technically correct, a better description can be provided.
The list is organized by chapter and page with each word progressing in chronological order as it appears in the book. I added the document as a Word file so that it may be adapted to your specific purpose. With some adaptation, this vocabulary list should certainly be useful for ELA teachers!
