This was developed in order to introduce narrative writing through the reading of Gooney Bird Greene (that's Greene, with an "e") by Lois Lowery. I have been teaching narrative writing to my 2nd graders this way for years with success!
The unit includes:
-Instructional Ideas-Including Mini Lesson ideas, a Read Aloud Guide and Assessment Guide
-Interactive Notebook pages on the following topics: Zooming In, Beginning, Middle and End, and Temporal Words
-A Zooming In Match game for a lesson "Hook" or Morning Meeting
-Skill worksheets-on Zooming In, Beginning, Middle and End, and Temporal Words
-A BME graphic organizer in the form of a comic strip; including a variety of options for multiple grade levels. This is perfect for differentiation.
-A graphic organizer to encourage use of temporal words
-Publishing paper including lines for large and medium handwriting with a few decorative options.
-A craft to use with published pieces.
-Feedback tickets from Gooney Bird herself! These are related to the lessons from the book.
-Checklist for individual student task direction or assessment.
-Differentiated rubric for student and teacher feedback-the three separate rubrics focus on ideas, organization, and conventions with a distinct allusion to the mini lesson skills. They are included for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders or for differentiation in your classroom.
Have fun teaching!
