Common Core Standards state that students should "quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text" (RL.1 and RI.1)
To help students combine their answers with direct quotes from the text, they need evidence based terms, phrases and sentence starters to make a strong connection. Choosing from this list will help students "spice" up their writing and connect their answers to the prompt given. Used as practice in class and for homework with a variety of texts: nonfiction, fiction, poetry, dramas, etc.
Students can cut out and paste in a writer's notebook, binder, or anywhere else they can use this as a visual.
Works great for upper elementary and middle school grades!
