"Gotitas en el cubo" is a series of daily language and grammar practice [lessons] for students in bilingual and dual-language programs where Spanish is either the primary, or shared, language of instruction. Lessons are aligned with the 4th Grade SLAR TEKS for Reading and Writing, and are an excellent resource for STAAR prep. Daily lessons are broken into ten [small] sections, each of which providing explicit, targeted practice with the following skills: Homophones/Spelling; Punctuation; Commas; Verb Tenses; Fact/Opinion; Grammar & Usage; Capitalization; Adjective vs. Adverb; Root Words; and Prefixes. Students will find that the consistent, repetitive practice format helps to trigger their skill-based recall/application from prior "Gotitas" lessons. As a result, [eventual] skill mastery is inevitable for the vast majority of students.
In my classroom, "Gotitas" were NOT completed on a daily basis. However, I did teach DAILY mini-lessons using the practice exercises from different sections. The students and I created MANY anchor charts, which were used religiously during their initial [independent] completion of any/all "Gotitas" practice lessons. Afterwards, while discussing the exercise(s)/answer(s) for a target skill, it was common for students to ADD new rules, examples, and/or exceptions to existing anchors [based on our discussion]. Alternatively, "Gotitas" lessons can be assigned as homework, completed during small-group instruction, or even be used as a teaching tool for tutoring. The sky is the limit with this resource, and the fact that it's in SPANISH...well, all I can say is HOORAY!
