This resource is a four page PDF document titled Democracy Timeline and focusses on the development of democracy in Australian history.
The first worksheet has the years when significant events occurred, ie 1902 - Women over 21 were given the vote in NSW. Students have to cut out each strip then sequence the years in order.
The second and third pages are an extension on this same activity but allows for students to research in order to match the events to the years they happened. The second page has the dates in order for the students so when they work out which event matches which year they cut the strips from the third page and match them up.
Teachers could also use the second and third pages to get the students to sequence based on their own predictions. This could provide good opportunity for a class discussion where students justified why they placed certain events before others.
The fourth page is a list of the years and events in the correct order. This can be used as a reference page by the teacher but could also be photocopied for student use.
This activity was written to use with the new Australian Curriculum History K-10 Syllabus.
