This activity packet is aligned with the Ontario Mathematics curriculum for Grade 1. In this packet students explore concrete graphs as well as pictographs.
Through this activity packet, students:
• Demonstrate an ability to organize objects into categories, by sorting and classifying objects using one attribute and by describing informal sorting experiences;
• Collect and organize primary data that is categorical and display the data using one-to-one correspondence, prepared templates of concrete graphs and pictographs, and a variety of recording methods;
• Read primary data presented in concrete graphs and pictographs, and describe the data using comparative language;
• Pose and answer questions about collected data;
With this activity packet you will receive lesson suggestion plans that include an introductory activity, a core learning activity, and a lesson consolidation activity. This activity packet gives students the chance to practice creating analyzing concrete graphs and pictographs. Students also have the chance to use a tally chart to collect data. The culminating tasks both have students create and conduct their own survey.
