This is a set of 18 worksheets to accompany the 9 stories from the Houghton Mifflin Theme Two (Surprise!) Phonics Library. Essential for first grade readers, during independent reading and writing rotations, is differentiated activities, so I have included two worksheets for each story. Both formats ask the students to provide the setting, character(s), sequence of events or problem/solution, genre, word family words, phonograms, onomatopoeias, and proper/common nouns on neatly arranged handwriting lines. The only difference between the worksheets is one allows the students to read and choose the sequence of events or problem/solution from a multiple choice format, while the other has blank handwriting lines for the students to fill in the answer and/or illustrate the answer. The worksheets change with each story as the skills build, but the short answer format stays the same. This eliminates frustration and allows the students to focus on the simple objectives, learn, and SUCCEED! Answer sheets are included.
