The "Patterning" activity packet is designed to meet the specific expectations outlined in the Ontario Mathematics curriculum for Grade 1. This activity packet was completely revised as of August 2015. This packet now includes the following sections:
Section 1: Lesson Plans and Activities
This section contains lesson plans that place the Ontario Mathematics curriculum expectations as the lesson learning goals. The topics dealt with in this section include: identifying, describing, extending and creating repeating patterns involving one attribute (both geometric and numeric). There are 13 lessons included in this packet.
Section 2: Additional Activities
If you are looking for additional activity worksheets that can be used to reinforce the above concepts, than the additional activities section of this packet is perfect. This section includes additional practice activity worksheets that can be used for fast finishers or for extra home practice.
Section 3: Pattern Review Mini-Pages
This section contains 15 half-paged review activity pages that review key concepts students learn about in the "Patterning" activity packet. The types of activity questions included here are: identifying patterns, creating patterns using given shapes, attributes or pattern sequences, creating numeric patterns, and identifying pattern sequences.
Section 4: Create a Pattern Card Set
This section includes both coloured and black and white versions of pattern sequence cards. These pattern sequence cards present students with either a pattern sequence and/or a pattern attribute that they are to incorporate into their created pattern. Students use these cards to create a pattern on the given recording sheet.
Section 5: Pattern Example Strips
These pattern strips are perfect for whole-class instruction or small-group/one-on-one instruction settings. Students can use these strips to extend and identify patterns, or they can use these strips as inspiration for their own patterns.
If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know. This packet would be wonderful for students in Kindergarten who are high-flying or for students in Grade 2 who might need practice with repeating geometric and numeric patterns.
