This packet is aligned with the 2015 Ontario Grade 1 Health curriculum expectations. Through this packet students:
➢ Demonstrate an understanding of essential knowledge and practices for ensuring their personal safety;
➢ Demonstrate an ability to recognize caring behaviours and exploitive behaviours and describe the feelings associated with each;
➢ Apply their knowledge of essential safety practices to take an active role in their own safety at school;
➢ Demonstrate an understanding of how to stay safe and avoid injuries to themselves and others in a variety of situations, using knowledge about potential risks at home, in the community, and outdoors;
This activity packet includes lesson ideas, worksheets and an assessment idea all dealing with the topic of personal safety and injury prevention at the Grade 1 level. There is also a parent note included that outlines how parents or guardians can help with this unit at home. Students demonstrate their understanding of personal safety and injury prevention through writing activities, cut-and-paste activities as well as oral discussions.
