This is a place value test for grade 1 based on the Ontario Curriculum. It includes a rubric and is divided into 4 sections: knowledge/understanding, problem solving, communication & application.
The following are areas addressed on this test:
-identifying what number is represented by the base 10 picture (numbers to 20)
-drawing a base ten picture 2 different ways to represent a number to 20.
-ordering numbers to 20 from least to greatest & greatest to least.
-comparing numbers to 20: less than, greater than, equal to.
-communicating why a number is greater than or less than. In grade 1 I have students orally communicate their thinking & scribe their responses. At least for the first few months.
***I use base ten materials to teach concepts of place value to my grade 1 students, therefore my assessment reflects this. If you use ten frames instead, this test would not work as an assessment in your classroom. If you think this test is long as a whole, breaking it up and completing over several days is a solution.
