Guidelines for Interim Assessment:
Interim literacy assessment is given during the assessment window.
The assessment may be administered over a period of two days, with one passage given per day.
The assessment may be administered whole group, small group, or one-to-one depending on student needs.
Before you begin assessment, let students know the following:
1. “You (student) will read the passage OR I (teacher) will read the passage”
2. “Then you will answer questions about the passage”
Students independently read the passage twice OR follow along as teacher reads the passage twice. Then, the questions/answer choices are read twice.
o OPTIONAL: Passages and questions can be reread multiple times if needed.
Students circle the correct answers and write and draw their constructed responses.
Encourage students to look at the pictures and the text to answer the questions.
Make certain all students have circled/responded to the question before going on to the next assessment item.
Students that are unable to write sentences are encouraged to write the best that they can, and/or label their drawings. They may have someone script for them (do not prompt answers).
