Classroom Implementation Ideas & Tips
This Grade 1 Science package contains 2 Student Booklets meeting the broad range of standards and strands for many States.
2 Student Booklets include:
Animal & Plant Diversity
These Student Booklets may be used in a number of ways in your classroom. Students may work independently or together in pairs or as a small group to complete the booklets and/or individual sheets. The Animal Report Booklet would make a great shared writing activity for younger students.
These booklets contain information and ample room for student responses. Additional blank pages are included for your prolific writers who like to add lots of details.
For your slower paced learners and English language learners, there are many boxes for pictures and diagrams so students can demonstrate their understanding. The booklets are designed so that many of the important words, and definitions have been highlighted for the student in bold text for easy reference. You may need to scribe for these students.
For enhanced programs and gifted learners or for those students who require an extra challenge, you may want to assign a task that involves some additional research that would require a higher level of understanding of the content and concepts. Extra blank lined pages have been included for this purpose.
I include a Word Search Activity at the end of every booklet for those students who finish before others or those that would benefit from additional exposure to the vocabulary.
How It Works
The booklet is designed to meet a variety of curriculum and common core standards in addition to many individual State curriculum standards.
Common Core State Standards ELA & Literacy in History/Social Studies K-5
When reading the text and when completing the written portion of the booklets, students will meet the following CCSS.ELA: Reading Standards for Informational Texts 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4,1.5, 1.6, 1.7 and 1.10 and Writing Standards 1.2, 1.3, 1.7 and 1.8.
An all-purpose Evaluation Rubric is included for the booklets. You may also like to have your students make oral presentations to the class to share their learning and understanding.
