Dr. Dea's Common Core First Grade Writing Rubric provides a tool for teachers and students: a one page evaluation rubric for the teacher and three self-evaluation checklists for students (one for opinion, inform/explain, and narrative). Aligned to the Common Core Writing Standards and PARCC's most recent scale score updates (Summer 2015), Dr. Dea's rubric is a single framework for evaluating all three writing types delineated by the Common Core Writing Standards. The student friendly checklists can be used at the end of the writing process or throughout. Teachers can choose to emphasize various aspects on the checklists as targets for instruction.
Dr. Dea's PARCC-influenced teacher rubric provides five criteria categories for evaluation: Reading Comprehension, Writing Development, Writing Organization, Clarity of Language, and Language Conventions. Additionally, the teacher rubric embeds Common Core grade-level language standards specifying grammar and conventions expectations to ensure teachers remember to include instruction and evaluation of grade-level conventions.
