This is an extremely detailed lesson plan. It includes Ontario and New York standards, central focus, objectives of the lesson and the assessment plan.
The lesson will begin with a photograph of people with different hair colors. This will introduce students to diversity of traits within a species and the concepts of genetic make-up and heredity. Question posted on the board for students to read as they walk into the classroom, “what are the chances that two parents with black hair will have a child with blonde hair?” Teacher will allow the students to think about it and address it throughout the class.
The lesson includes:
1) KWL chart
2) Genetic Survey
4) Power Point
5) Punnet Square practice worksheet
6) Punnet Square Lab
7) Complete dominance, incomplete dominance and co-dominance
7) Exit Ticket
It is a highly engaging and fun lesson. It has everything you need to teach Punnet Squares and Mendelian Inheritance. Enjoy :)
