The "Grade 2 Addition" activity packet is designed to meet the curriculum expectations outlined in the Ontario Mathematics curriculum. This packet introduces students to double-digit addition using a variety of activities and lessons. Students are also asked to practice mental math strategies (i.e., counting on, making ten, front-end addition). In this packet students are asked to add and become familiar with sums to 100. Students are also asked to compose numbers to 20 in a variety of ways. This packet is divided into five sections.
Section 1: Templates
This section includes several templates that can be used for students who are adding with manipulatives. The templates included are a hundreds chart, a fives frame, a tens frame and a part-part whole mat.
Section 2: Lessons and Activities
This section contains all lessons and relevant activity worksheets/activity suggestions. There are 6 lessons included in this packet. Each lesson includes a lesson introduction, a core learning activity and a lesson consolidation. You will need manipulatives for some of the lessons (i.e., snap cubes).
Section 3: Additional Activities
The additional activities section includes several additional activity worksheets or mini-games that can be used by students to practice addition skills/mental math strategies. These activities can be used for early finishers or if students need more reinforcement with addition at the Grade 2 level.
Section 4: Daily Addition
This section includes half-sheet quick addition practice questions that students can work with at the beginning of class or once they are finished their work. These half-sheets reinforce key addition skills developed in Grade 1 and further develop mental math strategies.
Section 5: Answer Keys
This section includes answer keys for all activities in the order that the activity worksheets are presented in the activity packet.
This packet would also be great for those students in Grade 3 who might need some reinforcement/review for addition skills developed in Grade 2. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.
