Grade 2: Geometry
Geometry can be fun to learn and fun to teach with the 19 activities in this set. Our activities enhance students’ understanding of geometry in a variety of ways.
Geometry at the second grade level involves more than just knowing the names of the shapes. Students are encouraged to describe shapes using the correct name and description. Second grade students learn about geometric shapes’ attributes, such as the number of vertices, faces, edges, sides, and angles. Our activities allow students to investigate, and explore geometrical ideas and shapes.
Our Geometry Activities help students to…
Describe attributes (the number of vertices, faces,
edges, sides) of two- and
three-dimensional geometric figures such as circles, polygons,
spheres, cones, cylinders, prisms, and pyramids, etc
Use attributes to describe how 2 two-dimensional
figures or 2 three-dimensional geometric figures are alike or
Cut two-dimensional geometric figures apart and identify the new
geometric figures formed.
Use whole numbers to locate and name points on a number line.
The activities can be used to Assess concepts, Introduce concepts, Review concepts, and to help students Retain the concepts that have been taught. Our Math Activities can be used in a variety of ways to “AIRR” out your math curriculum.
Section One contains a numbered list of activities. Each activity is explained using a step-by-step process identifying the group size and materials needed to complete the task. Some of the activities have matching activity cards and practice sheets which are found in Section Two, Activity Sheets. The top right side of each set of activity cards, and practice sheet corresponds with the matching activity number. An answer key is conveniently provided in Section Three.
Our math activities are aligned to the following standards:
