This unit plan is laid out in the same format as Units 1 and 2 of this entire year of learning activities for Grade 2 Health. It satisfies the outcomes for AP 2.1 of the Saskatchewan curriculum and gives learning activities for helping students work through an action plan, based on making healthy connections related to the topics they have been studying. Within the plan t here is:
Established Goal/Big Idea/Essential Understanding
Students will be able to:
Act upon health-related understandings, skills, and confidences to make healthy connections related to personal thoughts-feelings-actions, healthy snacking, affects of illness/disease, respect, safety, and diversity.
Essential Questions: (indicators)
Can you ask questions and explore possible answers regarding the steps needed to take action? Can you demonstrate, with guidance, how to ask for help with the action to be taken? Can you document and record details about the action that was taken? Can you reflect on the action and assess what went well, what you learned, and how you could do better in the future?
Students will know that:
When we take action on something we need to have a plan, get help to carry out the plan, and then assess how well we did at taking the action. Did we get the result we had hoped for?
This plan could be covered in approximately 3 weeks, but depending on what direction you take with the action plans, could be a 6 week plan. Assessment and self assessment ideas are included.
