This activity packet is aligned with the 2015 Ontario Grade 2 Health and Physical Education curriculum expectations. Through this activity packet students:
• Demonstrate an understanding of practices that enhance personal safety in the home and outdoors;
• Identify common food allergies and sensitivities and the reactions they might cause;
• Explain the importance of standing up for themselves and demonstrate the ability to apply behaviours that enhance their personal safety in threatening situations;
• Describe how to relate positively to others and describe behaviours that can be harmful in relating to others;
Much of the learning that occurs in this activity is through oral discussions with some supplementary worksheets included. This activity packet includes lesson ideas, worksheets and a final assessment idea all dealing with the topic of personal safety and injury prevention at the Grade 2 level. There is also a parent note included that outlines how parents or guardians can help with this unit at home. Students demonstrate their understanding of personal safety and injury prevention through writing activities, as well as oral discussions.
