The “Substance Use and Addictions” activity packet is designed to meet the curriculum expectations for the 2015 Ontario Grade 2 Health curriculum. This packet has students:
- Describe the difference between prescription medicines and non-prescription medicines, giving examples of each, and identify rules for the proper use of all medicines;
- Describe methods that may be used instead of or in combination with medication to maintain good health and prevent or treat various health problems;
This packet introduces students to prescription medicines (which can only be obtained through a doctor and gaining a prescription) and non-prescription medicines. Students are also introduced to alternative ways that they can stay healthy both without the use of medicines and with the use of medicines (e.g., getting sleep, drinking water). This packet contains a reading, a prescription label activity, 6 lessons and relevant activity worksheets that all help to address the two above curriculum expectations.
