Dr. Dea's Common Core Second Grade Writing Rubric provides tools for teachers and students: a one page evaluation rubric for the teacher and a choice between two self-evaluation checklists for students. Aligned to the Common Core Writing Standards and PARCC's most recent scale score updates (Summer 2015), Dr. Dea's rubric is a framework for evaluating analytic (argument & informative) and narrative writing. The student friendly checklists are tools to use throughout the writing process; teachers can choose to emphasize various aspects on the checklists as targets for instruction.
Dr. Dea's rubric delineates Common Core descriptors among five criteria categories: Reading Comprehension, Writing Development, Writing Organization, Clarity of Language, and Language Conventions. Additionally, Dr. Dea's teacher rubric embeds Common Core grade-level language standards specifying grammar and conventions expectations to ensure teachers remember to include instruction and evaluation of grade-level conventions.
