The Grade 2 Properties of Liquids and Solids unit, students work on developing their understanding of the properties of materials through the investigation of familiar liquids and solids. Students will explore the different ways in which liquids and solids interact and the different ways that liquids and solids are used. Students are also asked to explore the properties of liquids and solids.

The overall expectations that this packet addresses are:
- Assess the ways in which the uses of liquids and solids can have an impact on society and the environment.
- Investigate the properties of and interactions among liquids and solids.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the properties of liquids and solids.

The big ideas that this packet addresses are:
- Materials that exist as liquids and solids have specific properties.
- Liquids and solids interact in different ways.
- Some liquids and solids can be harmful to us and the environment.
