Do you use the Grade 3 EnVisions math curriculum or are you teaching perimeter? These power points are a great resource to use when teaching each lesson. They allow you to integrate technology into your instruction and use the Common Core based EnVisions skills and terminology to help your students master the skills. The power points are designed to be used as a teaching tool for each lesson. The first slide introduces the lesson number and title, allowing you to state and describe the lesson objective to the students. Every one of the power point lessons contain a warm-up for spiral review of skills previously learned. All contain a "Think and Write" to integrate math and writing skills and often make connections between math and daily life experiences of the students. There are practice problems that you can use to demonstrate on the board, on slates/communicators, or in notebooks to engage all students. By observing student responses, you can decide whether students need more review or are ready to move to independent work.
Topic 13 focuses on perimeter, an essential skill for Common Core Math. Included are lessons on how to find perimeter by counting squares or measuring sides, how to draw shapes with a certain perimeter, choosing appropriate tools and units to measure perimeter, finding perimeter of common shapes by using knowledge of shape properties, creating different shapes with the same perimeter, and problem solving by trying different numbers to fit the problem and revising to correct. Lessons presented by the power points include:
13-1: Understanding Perimeter
13-2: Tools and Units for Perimeter
13-3: Perimeter of Common Shapes
13-4: Different Shapes with the Same Perimeter
13-5: Problem Solving: Try, Check, and Revise
