This is the 4th lesson in The Art of Informational Writing unit of study by Lucy Calkins and M. Colleen Cruz. The teachers guide asks that teachers develop their own lesson for this session, therefore I created this lesson based on what the students have done so far, and what they are expected to do next in writing their informational books. I also incorporated my knowledge of what works well at this point, for I taught this unit for many years in the classroom. You can modify the lesson according to your students' needs and learning styles. This lesson contains all workshop model components-including the standards, as well as visuals of materials that can be used in the classroom.
