This is the sixth lesson in The Art of Information Writing unit of study, written by Lucy Calkins and M. Colleen Cruz. I am currently working on the entire unit. These lessons are not meant to replace the lessons in the guide; it is important to read those because they give a more detailed picture of how the workshop may go. This is for teachers like me who are using the program and still need a formal lesson plan written up. These lessons include all components, including the common core standards, and photos of anchor charts that can be used in the classroom. You can modify them to accommodate your teaching style, and your students’ needs. The mid workshop teaching point isn’t included because it can go differently in every classroom, and therefore needs to be addressed with the needs of the students in mind. Puppets are used in the connection part to motivate and engage students in the thinking they will do, but this can be modified as well.
