Dear Teacher Friends,
This is a Louisiana-specific Grade 3 MATH lesson plan template (in Microsoft Word) that I developed to use with the Common Core. Here is how I plan to use it this year.
Header: Type the name of your school where I have “Elementary,” then type your own name following “Teacher:”as well as the time you teach Math and the week for which you are planning where I have my time and date, respectively.
CC Standards: As you will note, each of the four math clusters has a section at the beginning of the plan. Each field has the phrase “Choose an item.” If you click on Choose an Item, you will see a down arrow. Click on the down arrow, and all of the standards for that literacy strand will come up. Simply scroll down the items and choose the one you need. *Note: some standards will be listed with “Part 1” or “Part 2” in the name. This is because the description of the standard was too long for this type of list. I allowed for three items per cluster. Choose the Common Core standards that you plan to teach for this week.
Mathematical Practices: I have created three places in which to list the Mathematical Practices (there are 8 total) on which your students will be working this week. Again, if you click on “Choose an item,” all eight practices will be listed.
I have added places to type in any Guiding Questions, specific Objectives, and Higher Order Thinking questions that you will cover in this plan.
Daily Activities: Below the Standards begins the Daily portion of the plan, with a section for each day, Monday through Friday. I am structuring my math lesson as Guided Math using structures similar to the Daily 5 many people use for reading. I have provided a place to type your anticipatory set and whole-group mini-lesson, plus information for each of 4 Guided Math groups. I have also provided a place entitled “Other,” in which you can type whatever notes you may need for that day.
Materials and Media: There is also a section entitled Materials and Media. All you need to do in this section is click on the box next to the items you will be using. You can type in page numbers or item descriptions simply by clicking to the right of the appropriate item/s. The same applies to the Closure/Evaluation section.
Footer: Type your own descriptions of your math center/small group rotations in the top field. Under Accommodations for Individual Differences, type any IEP or IAP accommodations necessary. I use numbers instead of student names. Under Guided Math Groups, again, I use numbers for students instead of names, and these change often. Change the names of the groups to suit your classroom.
Personally, I save this as a MS Word Template, then just pull it up to "input" the week's lesson.
