Choice boards are a wonderful way to offer students a "choice" in their work, as well as to differentiate instruction. These choice boards have been designed to go along with the McGraw-Hill Reading Wonders series. This is for 3rd Grade, Unit 4.
Each week, students may choose from nine activities, each one’s design based on the skills and concepts being presented that week. Activities include phonics/spelling, vocabulary, high frequency words, comprehension, writing, study skills, and cross curricular activities.
There are two versions of each board. On one version, teachers can simply choose the number of activities required to complete, allowing students to make all their own choices. On the other, teachers can mark which boxes they want students to complete first to give more direction. For example, perhaps two boxes are marked so students know they must complete those before making any choices of their own.
Students can work on these activities as literacy stations, or as anchor activities, to do when they are finished with their other work. Students may record all of their responses in a response journal. This can be a spiral notebook or simply pages stapled together.
