Science Grade 3 - Structures and Mechanisms
Strong and Stable Structures
2 40 minute periods per week
This is a short introductory unit that touches on all the overall and specific expectations. It is very easy to incorporate into an already existing unit, or, to augment as more resources (more experiments, etc) become available or know about to you.
Overall Expectations pulled from the Ontario Grade 3 Science Curriculum
1. assess the importance of form, function, strength, and stability in structures through time;
2. investigate strong and stable structures to determine how their design and materials enable
them to perform their load-bearing function;
3. demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of structure, strength, and stability and the
factors that affect them.
Specific expectations are with each lesson.
