This lesson introduces the wire work of artist Alexander Calder. Students view and discuss images of Calder's Circus before creating their own designs for wire figures in motion. Various wire sculpting techniques are explored as students take on the challenge of conveying implied movement in a 3D form.
The lesson was designed to take three to four 45-minute classes to complete.
*Product updated on 11/25/18 to include an expanded step 3 with pictures to accompany the mentioned wire techniques and an example finished figure with measurements and quantity of wire needed to complete a similar figure.
