The “Expressions and Equality” activity packet is aligned with the Ontario Grade 4 Mathematics curriculum expectations. The specific expectations that this packet explores are:
- Determine the inverse relationship between multiplication and division;
- Determine the missing number in equations involving multiplication of one- and two-digit numbers;
- Identify and use the commutative property of multiplication to facilitate computation with whole numbers;
- Identify and use the distributive property of multiplication over addition to facilitate computation with whole numbers;
This activity packet includes 5 lessons as well as relevant activity pages that all address the above expectations. For this packet, students need to have a working knowledge of multiplication and division and what each operation is (i.e., multiplication is the combining of equal groups; division is the separating of a whole into equal groups).
