The “Healthy Eating” activity packet is designed to meet the curriculum expectations for the 2015 Ontario Grade 4 Health curriculum. This packet has students:
- Identify the key nutrients provided by foods and beverages, and describe their importance for growth, health, learning and physical performance;
- Analyze personal food selections through self-monitoring over time, using the criteria indicated in Canada’s Food Guide and develop a simple healthy eating goal appropriate to their age and activity level;
- Identify ways of promoting healthier food choices in a variety of settings and situations;
Through this packet students learn about the difference between processed and unprocessed foods as well as the benefits of having foods from around the world. This packet includes 13 lesson plans, worksheets, and readings as well as journal prompts that all help to meet the above expectations. Please note that this unit is intended to supplement your unit on Healthy Eating.
