The "Grade 4 Measuring Length, Height and Distance" (linear measurement) activity packet is designed to meet the specific expectations outlined in the Ontario Grade 4 Mathematics curriculum. This activity packet builds on students' knowledge of the centimetre and metre and introduces students to the kilometre. The expectations that this packet addresses are as follows:
- Estimate, measure, and record length, height, and distance, using standard units (i.e., millimetre, centimetre, metre and kilometre);
- Draw items using a ruler, given specific lengths in centimetres and millimetres;
- Compare standard units of length and select and justify the most appropriate standard unit to measure length;
- Compare and order objects on the basis of linear measurements in millimetres, centimetres, metres, and kilometres;
This activity packet includes 5 lessons and relevant activity worksheets. Each lesson includes a lesson introduction, a core learning activity and a lesson consolidation. There is also a pre- and post-unit assessment and grading scale included for your use.
This packet can be used for high flying students in Grade 3 or for students in Grade 5 who might need more assistance when it comes to measuring and comparing units of measurement. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know by either sending me an email or leaving a question on my TPT store page.
