Dr. Dea's Fourth Grade Common Core writing rubric provides a tool for teachers and students: a one page self-evaluation checklist for the student and a one-page evaluation rubric for the teacher. Aligned to the Common Core Writing Standards and PARCC's most recent scale score updates (Summer 2015), Dr. Dea's rubric is a framework for evaluating analytic (argument & informative) and narrative writing. The student friendly checklist is a tool to use throughout the writing process and teachers can choose to emphasize various aspects on the checklist as targets for instruction.
Dr. Dea's rubric delineates Common Core descriptors among five criteria categories: Reading Comprehension, Writing Development, Writing Organization, Clarity of Language, and Language Conventions. Additionally, Dr. Dea's teacher rubric embeds Common Core grade-level language standards specifying grammar and conventions expectations to ensure teachers remember to include instruction and evaluation of grade-level conventions.
