Students will read two passages about checkerboards. The first is about a father and his sentiments for his old checkerboard. The second passage is about how to make a homemade checkerboard.
The story is followed by a series of multiple choice questions aligned with various strands of the CCSS Grade 5 English Language Arts Standards for Reading.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.5.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.
