This packet is aligned with the Ontario Grade 5 Data Management curriculum expectations. This packet includes 10 lessons that can be used during a 60 minute math block. Each lesson includes between 2 and 3 activities that reinforce topics covered in the Data Management unit. The topics covered in this unit are:
- Creating broken-line graphs, bar graphs, double-bar graphs, stem-and-leaf plots and pictographs.
- Interpreting data presented in tables, charts and graphs.
- Using the mean, median, mode and range to interpret small sets of data.
- Collecting and organizing data into the above mentioned graphs.
This packet includes 24 activities and a pre-assessment as well as a post-assessment. Each lesson in this packet is detailed with curriculum expectations, vocabulary words, effective math questions presented in a left-hand column as well as minds on, action, follow up and practice sections that detail whole-group discussions and independent/partner practice activities.
