This activity ties in nicely with the new Ontario Social Studies curriculum. Grade 5 students are to write 2-3 journal entries from the point-of-view of a European explorer or First Nations member living in Ontario.
Research would have already occurred, which would have examined the First Nations way of life, European explorer experiences once they arrived, as well as the relationships between First Nations and Europeans.
This can be used as a Social Studies mark or a Writing mark, or both, as the journal entries must be historically accurate and the student must examine their research and ideas, and select the information most appropriate for their writing. Use as an end-of-unit piece, and integrate it into your Language program.
All organizers, student checklist and rubric included. Once purchased, modify formatting only.
