This Grade 5 Health teaching resource offers an in-depth coverage of all the indicators for the last two outcomes of the Health curriculum for Grade 5: Outcome DM5.1 and Outcome AP5.1

Although it has been written to meet the outcome and indicators for the Saskatchewan Health curriculum, it will meet the needs of educators teaching students about the impact that violence and abuse has on human lives.

Lessons are presented in the order of the indicators:

Outcome DM5.1:

Identify common barriers to adolescent well-being (peer pressure, time)

Determine health challenges and opportunities

Question why particular health opportunities and challenges exist

Recognize why health opportunities and challenges exist

Determine that people respond to health challenges and opportunities in various ways

Analyze positive and negative consequences of people’s response to health challenges and opportunities

Formulate healthy strategies for addressing possible health challenges and/or embracing possible health opportunities

Create a class goal statement to address identified health challenges and/or embrace particular health opportunities

Outcome AP5.1

Identify the elements of effective action plans, including what will be done (goal(, who will be involved, where it will take place and why this action is being taken

Identify the supports needed to carry out the action plan

Carry out. With guidance, the steps identified in the design of the action plan

Reflect on whether or not the goal was achieved in order to guide future application
