The “Human Development & Sexual Health” activity packet is designed to meet the curriculum expectations for the 2015 Ontario Grade 5 Health curriculum. This packet has students explore the following:
- Identify the parts of the reproductive system, and describe how the body changes during puberty;
- Describe the processes of menstruation and spermatogenesis, and explain how these processes relate to reproduction and overall development;
- Describe emotional and interpersonal stresses related to puberty and identify strategies that they can apply to manage stress, build resilience, and enhance their mental health and emotional well-being;
This packet includes 5 lessons as well as relevant activity worksheets and readings about puberty, the reproductive system, menstruation and spermatogenesis. Please note that this packet does include the appropriate vocabulary students need to know as outlined in the curriculum and students are required to use to describe the various parts of the reproductive system for both the male and female. This packet also includes labelled diagram of both the male and female reproductive systems. This packet also includes a reading about Assisted Reproductive Technologies (as per the curriculum exemplars).
