This is an outline of a final independent assessment project for a Canadian Government unit based on the Grade 5 Ontario Social Studies curriculum. It allows students to investigate a significant social or environmental issue that interests them. It provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate everything they have learned about Canadian government(s) and to compile the knowledge into writing form. There are many different aspects outlined in this assignment that allow teachers to provide students will a mark for Social Studies, Writing, and (French) Oral Communication.This assignment was created for a Grade 5 French Immersion classroom, but it could be used for an English classroom. It is written in English so that parents can understand what students will be doing in the classroom.
