The "Patterning" activity packet is designed to meet the specific expectations outlined in the Ontario Mathematics curriculum for Grade 5. This packet is divided into the following sections:
Section 1: Lesson Plans and Activities
This section contains lesson plans that place the Ontario Mathematics curriculum expectations as the lesson learning goals. The topics dealt with in this section include: creating, identifying, and extending numeric and geometric patterns, predicting patterns given a pattern rule and building models to represent numeric patterns. There are 10 lessons included in this packet.
Section 2: Additional Activities
If you are looking for additional activity worksheets that can be used to reinforce the above concepts, than the additional activities section of this packet is perfect. This section includes additional practice activity worksheets that can be used for fast finishers or for extra home practice. It also includes problem solving activities.
Section 3: Pattern Review Mini-Pages
This section contains 12 half-paged review activity pages that review key concepts students learn about in the "Patterning" activity packet. The types of activity questions included here are: identifying patterns, representing patterns with built models, working with tables of values, creating geometric patterns that match a given pattern sequence.
Section 4: Geometric Shape Pattern Poster Examples
This section contains two examples of geometric shape patterns - one that is growing and one that is shrinking. You can use these posters for instruction or for students to use as an example to work off of when creating their own geometric patterns.
Section 5: Answer Keys
This section contains answer keys for the relevant activities and problems presented throughout this activity packet.
If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know. This packet would be wonderful for students in Grade 4 who are high-flying or for students in Grade 6 who might need practice with repeating geometric and numeric patterns.
