This activity packet is aligned with the Grade 5 Ontario Mathematics curriculum. This packet addresses the following specific expectations:
- Select and justify the most appropriate standard unit to measure length, height, width, and distance.
- Solve problems requiring conversion from metres to centimetres and from kilometres to metres.
What do the lessons look like?
This packet includes 8 lessons, 9 activity worksheets, and 5 interactive notebook activities that help to meet the above curriculum expectations. The lessons are:
Lesson 6.1 - Pre-Unit Assessment
Lesson 6.2 - Conversions
Lesson 6.3 - Multiplicative Conversions
Lesson 6.4 - Opposite Conversions
Lesson 6.5 - Conversion Assessment
Lesson 6.6 - Choosing Measurements
Lesson 6.7 - Justifying Measurements
Lesson 6.8 - Measurement Knowledge
The lessons are intended to be used in a 60 minute math block. There are worksheets provided that are intended to provide students with a chance to practice key skills learned in the unit.
A strong focus in this packet is placed on converting measurements. Students are asked to make the following measurement conversions:
- mm to cm and mm to cm
- cm to m and m to cm
- m to km and km to m
What ASSESSMENTS are included?
Great question! I have tried to include a variety of math assessments to help guide student learning and understanding throughout the unit. There are assessment recording sheets that are included to help you identify where students are struggling in the unit, or where they are successful.
I am here to help! If you have any questions about this unit, or any of my units, please leave me a question under the Q&A tab below. Or, you can email me at email@example.com.
Note: This resource is still aligned with the 2005 Ontario Mathematics curriculum. This resource will eventually be updated to reflect the 2020 Ontario Mathematics curriculum changes. This resource part of the Wonderland Math series.
